How much does it cost to clear a blocked drain?

Every job is quoted on its own merits: how easily the drain is reached, how deep it runs, what the pipe is made of and what caused the choke. You get one fixed figure before any work begins.

Do you charge by the hour?

No. The price is agreed with you before work starts, so there is no hourly rate guesswork and no surprise when the invoice arrives. If the job uncovers something extra, we stop and talk it through first.

When do I pay, and how?

Payment happens on the day the work is done, and you can pay by card or EFTPOS. There is no deposit to find beforehand, and the amount matches the figure you agreed at the start.

Why does one job cost more than another?

Access, depth and pipe material matter most: a shallow PVC run near a boundary is a different proposition from a deep line under a concrete driveway. What caused the blockage, and whether a camera inspection is needed first, also move the figure.

Does a camera inspection cost extra?

It is quoted as part of the job when it is needed, not tacked on afterwards. On this island a camera often pays for itself, because it shows whether grit is getting in through a cracked joint before you pay to clear the same choke twice.

Do I pay anything before work starts?

No. Nothing begins until you have agreed the fixed upfront price, so you will never be asked for a deposit or an amount you have not seen in writing. The work starts when you say it starts.

Booking and Availability

How quickly can a plumber get here?

We can usually be there the same day, particularly for calls that come in during the morning. Availability depends on the day's bookings, so ring early if the drain is getting worse.

What should I have ready when I call?

Tell us which fixtures are slow or backing up, how long the trouble has been building, and whether it is one drain or every drain at once. That shapes what the plumber brings and how the first hour goes.

Do you cover the whole island?

Yes. Bellara, Banksia Beach, Woorim and Bongaree are all on the regular run, and the drain services page lists everything we handle across those suburbs, so one crew covers whatever the tide and the sand throw at any of them.

Who handles a blockage in the Unitywater main?

Anything inside the main belongs to Unitywater, not to us. We clear your property drain to the boundary, confirm where the handover sits, and send you to the utility if the trouble sits beyond it.

Drains and Island Ground

Call (07) 3067 4271

Why do drains here keep filling with sand?

The ground is estuarine sand holding a high water table, and when a joint cracks, groundwater carries fine sand into the line. It settles where the pipe flattens until the flow slows and stops.

Does the esplanade's food trade affect house drains?

It can. Kitchens along the foreshore strip send grease into lines that share runs with houses, and that grease hardens in places a purely residential street would never see, narrowing your pipe from the inside.

What happens when heavy rain meets a high tide?

Flat, low lots have little fall to shed water, so runoff from roofs and driveways has nowhere to go and pits and gully traps overflow. That is why summer downpours on a rising tide cause the worst backups.

Are the older asbestos-cement sewers a problem?

Much of the older public network is asbestos-cement, a brittle pipe that cracks at its joints and lets groundwater and roots in. Clearing still works, but a camera look is wise so a cracked section does not quietly rebuild the choke.

Why do gullies overflow on flat foreshore blocks?

Fall, or the lack of it. On level sandy ground water sits rather than runs, so a gully that copes in dry weather surges the moment a storm lands on a high tide.

Does salt air damage drain fittings?

Yes, on exposed walls near the Passage, salt-laden air corrodes outdoor taps, valves and relief lines before anything else. If a fitting on your seaward side is weeping or stiff, age and salt are the likely reasons.
